The term “smart locks” refers to any lock that has a way of communicating with other devices through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or other protocols. These locks offer several advantages over traditional locks, including the ability to lock and unlock remotely. You can set up a timer for your smart lock so that it automatically locks after you’ve left your house for the day. This way, you won’t have to worry about returning home late at night and fumbling around for your keys — simply open the door with your smartphone.

Types of smart locks

There are many different types of smart locks available today:

  • Biometric smart locks

A biometric smart lock uses fingerprints to grant or deny access to a door. These locks can be programmed with different digital fingerprints, allowing multiple people access to the door without the need for keys.

  • Smartphone app smart locks

A smart smartphone app allows you to grant and deny access to your home using your smartphone. You can also monitor who has accessed the door and when it was accessed.

  • Keyless entry smart locks

A keyless entry smart lock allows you to open the door without inserting a key into the cylinder on the inside of the door. The lock senses when you have your key in your pocket or purse and unlocks automatically when you approach it.

  • Fingerprint door locks

A fingerprint door lock is used to access an area by placing your finger on a small scanner next to an electronic keypad on the door. When your fingerprint matches one programmed into the system, you can access the home.

  • Wifi door locks

There are two types of Wifi door lock: The ones that work with your smartphone and the ones that don’t. The ones that do are generally more expensive, but they can also be more convenient.

The wifi door lock is a wireless technology that works much like Bluetooth, allowing devices to communicate wirelessly over a range of about 30 feet. This means you can unlock your door without having to dig out your keys or fumble with your phone.

These devices connect to an app on your smartphone via wifi, which also means you need an internet connection to use it. Some models have built-in cellular service as well, so even if you’re not connected to wifi, they’ll still work, although they’ll cost you extra each month.

You can also get these devices with Z-Wave technology, which lets them communicate even if there’s no internet connection at all. They are typically more expensive and require a hub to connect to the internet, but some people find this more convenient because a cellular connection can go down and leave them locked out of their house for hours at a time.

Smart Locks Offer More Than Security

When you talk about smart locks, it is not just about security. You also have to keep in mind that there are times when you want to let someone access your home when you are not there. This is where having a smart lock can be very useful. It includes features such as being able to lock and unlock your door remotely, automatically lock the door when you leave the house, and unlock it when you get back. These are only some of the features of a smart door lock. There are others, but they all have one thing in common-they serve to make access to your house more effortless than ever before.

Smart locks are a great way to add more security to your home without much effort. If you don’t like the idea of carrying around keys (honestly, who does?), consider using a smart lock like one of the models we covered here.
